Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the problems related to the phonetic and spelling peculiarities in the rendering of Ukrainian proper names in Bulgarian. It analyzes the differences between the two language systems, as well as the difficulties in reproducing characteristic Ukrainian sounds and letters (г, є, і, й, щ). Traditional approaches to transcription are discussed, highlighting the role of Russian language practice, which in the past influenced the perception of Ukrainian personal names and toponyms in the Bulgarian environment. Special attention is paid to inconsistencies in media practice, as well as to the need for unified norms that ensure both maximum proximity to the original and compliance with the Bulgarian phonetic and spelling system.
