Summary/Abstract: The love story between the “Luceafărul (“ e Morning Star”) of Romanian” poetry, Mihai Eminescu, and his muse, the poet and prose writer Veronica Micle, is symbolically recorded in the urban topography of Chișinău through two historical streets that bear their names and intersect in the city center, just as the destinies of the two lovers crossed. The urban arteries were drawn in the 1920s, and their names changed over time: Mihai Eminescu Street– Mihail Street, Mihai Viteazul Street and Komsomol Street; Veronica Micle Street – Fountain alley, Fountain Street and Luceafărul Street. In the interwar period, urban villas and townhouses with elegant architecture were built here. We note characteristic procedures for modernist architecture: the alternation of horizontal and vertical forms, the use of “steam” windows and raised plinth-shaped strips, the “dematerialization” of the corners of the buildings, etc. Elements from neo-Romanian architecture are also present: arches supported by sturdy columns, arched recessed openings, sloping roofs, etc.
