Summary/Abstract: Between 1918 and 1940, the modern ne arts in the region demonstrated the predominance of Romanian and Western European cultural-artistic influences over Eastern ones. A special role in this context was played by Post-Impressionism, Expressionism, and the Art Nouveau artistic movement, whose principles of approach can be traced in the work of Bessarabian artists until 1940 Alexandru Plămădeală, Auguste Baillayre, Eugenia Maleșevschi, Pavel Piscariov, Grigori Fiurer, Vladimir Doncev, Șneer Cogan, and others. The symbiosis of Eastern and Western European stylistic orientations was also felt in the field of graphics. The work of graphic artists from the targeted period was notable both for its expressionist stylistic manner, as in the case of the prints by Șneer Cogan and Gheorghe Cegloco, and for tendencies characteristic of the “Arta 1900” group, eloquently exemplified by the work of artists Theodor Kiriacoff, Moissey Kogan, and Elisabeth Ivanovsky.
