Summary/Abstract: The research aimed to analyse the attitude ofthe Polish political party operating in exile after1945 – People’s Party “Freedom” (SLW) – towardsthe events and changes in Poland in 1956 and1957. The main research questions were con-structed as follows: How was the October 1956transition in Poland assessed in the SLW? Did theSLW believe in the possibility of democratizationof the system in Poland? What was appreciatedfrom the October transition? When and based onwhat events was the period of transition in Polandconsidered to have ended? The source basis werematerials of SLW provenance (minutes of meetingsof the Main Board and the Supreme Council, cor-respondence, SLW press) and the emigrant papers,which were examined using the content analysismethod. The results of the research are presentedin the following order: characteristics of the SLW,the attitude of the party to the changes in Polandin 1956 and 1957, the role of the emigration afterthe Polish thaw, summary and conclusions.
