Summary/Abstract: This article provides an overview of the general history of the Iravan region, an ancient territory of Azerbaijan. It defines the borders and geographical scope of the Iravan Khanate and focuses on its occupation by the Russian Empire, the subsequent establishment of the Armenian Province in the region, and the process of Armenization. The political situation of the Iravan Khanate in the early 19th century, particularly during the First and Second Russo-Iranian Wars, is examined. The study draws upon primary archival sources, official Russian state documents, and extensive historical literature to analyze Russia’s strategic interest in the region and the military-political measures undertaken for its occupation, ultimately shedding light on the process of the khanate’s downfall.
