The Individual and the Nation: Identity, Values and Behaviour

Summary/Abstract: In this study identity, values and behaviour are investigated as components of the affiliation with the nation. We consider the latter as specific sociopsychological relation of the individual and the nation. Their subject-matter consists in the establishment and advancement of such interconnections and interactions with the nation (in all directions and social spheres), which favour an optimum individual's functioning and development. Some preliminary results of the experiment, testing the specially constructed theoretical model of the interaction between the individual and the nation are presented. The data from two waves of the longitudinal study, conducted in Smoljan region are discussed. The participants are 16-30 years old students and professionals with different levels of education and religious background (Christians and mussulmans). The data is analyzed in order to reveal the main relationships between the identity, values and behaviour and their elements. The dynamics of their development in conditions of social changes is also discussed.
