Summary/Abstract: This article aims to address the question of how users on Video-On-Demand (VOD) streaming platforms make decisions about what content to watch. In the course of the research, the author conducted a series of 8 in-depth interviews. Preliminary results indicate that the decision-making process is highly complex, personalized, and influenced by various external factors, including trust levels in algorithmic recommendations and the type of social media used, among others. The findings highlight two dominant paths of content selection: one based on internal platform tools (e.g. recommendations, search), and the other relying on external sources (e.g. social media, peer suggestions). The study reveals emotional responses linked to the overload of choices and calls for a better understanding of digital content curation strategies.
