The fate of Gen. Panayot Burnev and his family in the vortex of time during the period between 1878 – 1919

Summary/Abstract: Often, memoirs and memories evoke conflicting feelings. They are a true certificate of the author’s individuality. In themselves, they are also a written trace of the reflection of the public subject. At the same time, they serve as a kind of mirror of public consciousness and of the spiritual dimensions of a certain historical period. The purpose of this announcement is to highlight the fate of the famous Burnevi family. Their story takes place in the maelstrom of time between the so-called “Liberation” after the Russo–Turkish War of 1877–1878 and the tragic consequences for the country following the first national catastrophe. This catastrophe occurred as a result of the Balkan Wars, the Second Balkan War, and the First World War (1914–1918). The area of study is not chosen at random. It is determined by the nature of the local history research conducted. A number of studies by different authors have been used. In addition, documents and photographs from the Central State Archives in Sofia and the State Military Historical Museum in Sofia are included.
