Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the study is the publication of a newlydiscovered document in the funds of the State Military History Archive in Veliko Tarnovo, entitled „Report on the Primary Public Schools Opened in the Region of the Drama Regional Military Inspectorate during the 1917 – 1918 School Year“. The analysis of the information included in it outlines the extent of the network of educational institutions built by the joint efforts of the Ministry of National Education, the units of the Bulgarian Army operating in the area between the Struma and Mestarivers and the local Bulgarian administrative authorities within the boundaries of the Drama Military District Inspectorate during the First World War. The statistical data presented in the document allow a number of conclusions to be drawn about the results of the policy pursued by the Bulgarian state in the sphere of education and its efforts to integrate the local Bulgarians and the representatives of the foreign-born population in Eastern Macedonia into Bulgarian social and political life through the educational system.
