Summary/Abstract: The present research was based on the “Termini” project, supported by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA TMNP2023-1/2023) aimed at the analysis of educational terms. We considered the relationship of the Serbian equivalents to the source language, i.e. Hungarian terms in the Hungarian - Serbian dictionary in the making. In many cases, matching is difficult, the reasons may be linguistic and/or social. A good example of when the translation, or the definition of the equivalent, encounters linguistic difficulties is the related term to be notified, which only has a form with a similar meaning and analytical structure in Serbian: A good example of when the translation, i.e. the definition of the equivalent, runs into linguistic difficulties is, for example, értesítendő hozzátartozó. (the relative to be notified), which in Serbian only has a similar meaning and an analytically structured form: srodnik koga treba obavestiti. In the case of the mentioned example, socio-linguistic differences can also be observed, since the source language element does not appear as a compact term in the Serbian educational terminology. At the same time, the Hungarian corpus of educational terminology, which was created on the basis of the text of the Public Education Act, contains elements that seemingly appear to be technical terms, whose meaning is difficult to identify in social space.
