Summary/Abstract: The photo collection of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts was literally a latent material for nearly a hundred years, as 19th-century photographs, mostly consist of art reproductions, were removed from daily use as technology changed. In the early 1990s, the director of the library, Katalin B. Majkó, noticed this exceptional corpus and called for its professional processing, which is essentially still going on today. In 2016 and 2018, the university presented this internationally significant imagery to the public through two exhibitions and a book. In the course of this work, several previously unknown stories from the past of this year’s 150-year institution have been revealed, some of which are presented in the paper published here.
