Summary/Abstract: Presidential elections are fundamental to the life of democratic nations that have opted for presidentialism as their mode of governance, but election campaigns are also ideal opportunities for candidates for the country's supreme office to make political offers to the electorate. In Côte d'Ivoire, for example, candidates who set out their plans for society in order to curry favor with their fellow citizens use a number of stratagems, including the rhetoric of pollicitation, as this concept commonly designates an offer of contact that has not yet been accepted. The present contribution seeks to describe this posture of Ivorian politicians aiming to capture and persuade, during presidential campaigns, their fellow citizens through speeches of promise.
