Summary/Abstract: There is a long history of thematic university history research on the relationship between universities and the public, on the construction and affirmation of organisational identity, as well as on the practices of celebration and remembrance culture. Although our journal has always been committed to the promotion of new ways of writing university history, we have published numerous reviews of works on university history using the social or the new cultural history approach, and of course, many articles on the history of the University of Pécs, but the above-mentioned topics have only occasionally appeared in these writings. To fill this gap, this special issue of Per Aspera ad Astra focuses on the history of representation at the Elisabeth University, i.e. the university’s relationship with the public, its symbolic representation, and the institutional strategies related to it.
