Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the sociolinguistic analysis of language insecurity faced by modern Belarusian speakers. The object of the study is the language insecurity of Belarusian-speaking people, and the subject of the research is one of the central manifestations of language insecurity – hypercorrection or, more precisely, hypercorrect forms in the language that speakers use as a result of long-term Russification and loss of competence in their native language. In connection with this, the research analyses not just hypercorrect forms in the language, but primarily those that arose as a result of colonial activity – the dominance of the Russian language, Russification. The relevance of the topic is emphasised by the events of 2020, the intensification of Russification in Belarus, the mass flight of hundreds of thousands of Belarusians outside the country, and a new surge of interest in the Belarusian language, both in conditions of exile and under dictatorship. In such conditions, language uncertainty only increased, and the number of hypercorrect forms – especially colonialist – in the language increased, as evidenced by the analysis of the Belarusian-language press and virtual portals. The following methods are used in the research: analysis of secondary materials, comparative methods and case studies. However, the article attempts to assess the scale of language uncertainty and the spread of colonialist hypercorrect forms in the language, taking into account two standards – official and classical.
