Summary/Abstract: Libertarianism is a class of beliefs in political philosophy. Libertarians consider individual liberty as the highest political value and understand coercion as the opposite of that liberty. Libertarianism is often seen primarily as a philosophy of economic liberty and seeks to define and justify the legitimate powers of government in terms of certain natural or God-given individual rights. These rights include the rights to life, liberty, private property, freedom of speech and association, freedom of religion, government by consent, equality before the law, and moral autonomy.
