Summary/Abstract: Background Knowledge in the Belarusian Scientific and Humanitarian Discourse (Argumentological Aspect) The article represents the results of the linguistic-argumentological (descriptive-normative) analysis of the appeal to background knowledge in the Belarusian-language discourse of the humanities. It is noted that the strategic goal of including background knowledge in humanitarian scientific argumentation is to promote emotional rapprochement with the addressee, based on common life experiences, a common system of assessments, beliefs, and values. Three groups of background knowledge are distinguished: 1) information about the facts of modern life, 2) retrospective information, 3) cultural knowledge. Verbalization techniques are systematized for each group, pragmatic potential is determined, conditions of effective application in scientific and humanitarian argumentative practice are explained. The role of contextual and situational factors (social, historical, cultural background; current model of the addressee) in the interpretation and reconstruction of implicit knowledge and assessments contained in the background information is emphasized.
