Summary/Abstract: The scientific text is a fundamental instrument of academic communication, ensuring both the transfer and validation of knowledge. This article analyses the scientific text from three main perspectives: theoretical delimitations, relations with other functional styles, and the functions it fulfils in communication. The first part of the article defines the specific features of the scientific text, contrasting it with artistic, journalistic, administrative, and common language and underlining its objectivity, methodological rigour, and accuracy of terminology. Thus, the scientific text is situated within non-artistic functional styles while keeping a distinct cognitive and normative role. The second part focuses on its functions: the informative-cognitive function which ensures the objective transfer of verified knowledge; the formative and validating function which supports the educational role of scientific texts and acknowledges the researcher within the academic community; and the relational and applicative function which highlights intertextuality and demonstrates the social and cultural impact of scientific communication. The study concludes that the scientific text is not a simple expression of ideas, but a complex and dynamic form of communication, essential for academic dialogue, the preservation of knowledge, and the societal relevance of science.
