Summary/Abstract: The work aims to bring to light the striking similarities in the lives and works of two Romanian writers, who at first glance seem to have nothing in common. The emphasis is on the paternal and maternal image that is similarly reflected, both in the life and in the work of the writers Urmuz and George Călinescu, for educational and moralizing purposes. The paternal image and the maternal image (an image to which critics have not given much importance) leave their visible mark on the lives and work of the two writers. The work analyzes the prose of the writer Urmuz and the novels ""Enigma Otiliei"" and ""Cartea nunții"" by George Călinescu. From the perspective of the parental image, the work explains the apparently enigmatic choice of Otilia (Pascalopol) and the ""misogyny"" in Urmuz's prose. The study also presents the writers' vision of traditionalism and modernism, with their positive and negative aspects, also referring to the Bible. If George Călinescu finds a balance between the two, Urmuz presents a final generation in which both traditional and modern elements are compromised. In Urmuz's universe, society can no longer exist in its current form due to total corruption. In the Christian religion, this society, totally fallen, is the final generation in which the Lord Jesus Christ will return. The popular myth that said that the mistakes of parents are atoned for by children is also explained. In conclusion, the work traces the paternal and maternal image in the life and work of the two writers in order to understand the profound elements of their literary creations and to learn from concrete examples. Despite the parental image that each person carries, the final choice belongs to each individual (an example is the two writers with different destinies), as one of the greatest proofs of love that God has shown to man is the gift of free will.
