Summary/Abstract: Pavel Chihaia is one of the most representative figures of the Romanian intellectual exile during the communist period, for whom artistic integrity prevailed, thus becoming an example of personal sacrifice. This paper illustrates the period of vocational transition between 1950 and 1978, when, in order to resist pressure from the communist regime, he was forced to give up his literary vocation, which he had established with the publication of his novel Blocada (The Blockade) in 1948, which was added to the list of banned titles less than a year later, in favour of his vocation as a medieval historian, a field in which he remained an important name.
