Summary/Abstract: The current, general context of society is shaped by globalization. This means a complex interaction on all levels between different human communities. One of the fundamental dimensions of this interaction is the cultural one. Human communities once disadvantaged by the great colonial empires claim their right to cultural dignity. In the horizon of multiculturalism, such a claim implies a rethinking of the concept of ʺcultureʺ. The traditional perspective, as hypostasized in Romanian culture by Lucian Blaga's vision, makes a dichotomy between the great universal cultures and the minor, national ones. Bikhu Parekh proposes a new perspective, that of authentic, cultural dialogue, without any kind of hierarchization of superior versus inferior, in which each cultural community has the same dignity and can manifest itself authentically.
