Summary/Abstract: Dimitrie Cantemir still represents a significant source of research both from a cultural and historical point of view, and especially from a linguistic approach. For the same reasons, I turned my attention to his work, more precisely to Divanu, chosen as the text-support used in the present study. Considering my interest in the study of Romanian language, paraphrasing the linguist Iorgu Iordan, the Cantemir's text could be a plentiful resource for the field of linguistics, being written "from scratch" in Romanian. Thus, in this research, I propose the presentation and analysis of a matrical component of the verbal group, the complement of preposition, as observed in Divanul, using a generative approach in decrypting the premodern Romanian text from the linguistic point of view. In this research, I am interested in the complement of preposition as actualised in the verbal, adjectival, adverbial and interjectional groups, in the syntactical variation between dative case, the accusative case and the prepositional group, and I will discuss all these matters based on the language examples identified in Divanul. In the theoretical approach, I will also include references to the class of regents and to the possible difficulties in analysing the complement of preposition, with the final aim of establishing the formation and the role of the preposition within the Romanian syntactic structures.
