Summary/Abstract: Lexical misuse or semantic error is the incorrect use of words in speech or writing, generally related to meaning, connotation, collocation or grammatical compatibility. This phenomenon prevails in both native and non-native speakers and is due to such factors as inadequate language education, overreliance on technology and interference from other languages. In comparison with lexical innovation which usually enriches language, lexical misuse often leads to ambiguity and miscommunication. Lexical errors can significantly alter meanings and affect comprehension. They can also influence broader linguistic trends. When misused words are on the rise, they may gradually reshape standard usage, reduce language precision, and ultimately contribute to misunderstandings across cultures. The present work aims at highlighting how lexical misuse occur, its impact on language and how to mitigate its effects. Equally, the paper also provides a short analysis of various pair words that are prone to lexical misuse. Proper word usage is essential to ensure clarity, accuracy, tone and appropriateness in communication.
