Summary/Abstract: The article discusses Maria Prussak’s edition of the long-term correspondence betweenMaria Renata Mayenowa and Roman Jakobson, with the participation of his wife,Krystyna Pomorska. The publication has a rich informational framework, including theintroduction, commentary, and biographical notes in the Index, which makes the scholars’letters a valuable source of insight into their interactions and joint scientific endeavors.Their efforts contributed to the introduction of structural methods in Poland and thedevelopment of new research directions. The correspondence reveals the history ofa long-standing academic friendship. It sheds light on the crystallization of key elementsof the scholarly program at the Institute of Literary Research during the first decades ofits existence. It also documents attempts to establish extensive international contacts,outlines transformations in research directions within the humanities, and highlights theambition to create a global center for semiotic studies in Poland. This review comparesthe most significant events reflected in the letters with other sources on Maria RenataMayenowa’s achievements.
