Summary/Abstract: Climate change is a complex phenomenon with effects on social, biological life, economics, politics and culture. This article provides some considerations on the ways in which museums can become more relevant in the climate debate. Firstly, I have outlined the position that museums have gained in the discussion on this issue. As we all know, significant attention has been concentrated on the mass-media and less consideration has been given to museums. Mass-media has lost its position as a trusted source and now it is time for museums to act as change makers, supporting and enabling positive action directed towards climate change. Secondly, I have outlined that museums have understood that they can become relevant in their communities only by abandoning their “neutral” position and changing their traditional approaches of exhibitions to the detriment of new ones (engagement and co-creation) which allow visitors to join debates and reflect on thoughts and feelings evoked by the concept of climate change and its evidence. Now it is time for museums to “think outside the box”, namely they have to address the real issues of the contemporary society in unconventional ways and coming up with ideas that are new and unexpected.
