Summary/Abstract: Belonging to one of the sectors most exposed to the COVID-19 crisis, museums are at a turning point. Although unevenly affected financially, museums need, now more than ever, to get support for their activity. The fact that museums were already interconnected in strong networks, thus having access to a global database of good practice that proved invaluable in these times, allowed these institutions to adapt in solidarity to a shocking experience. On the other hand, the reflex response of museums everywhere was to take refuge in virtual reality, where they managed to prove a resilience and a creative capacity that exceeded all expectations. In turn, the professionals from Romanian museums have become a benchmark for how the lasting creative energy of these institutions can be attributed to the cause of maintaining culture at the forefront of social life. Although at present there is still plenty unknown about the COVID-19 crisis evolution, we are confident that the fundamental question that museums will have to answer remains just one: To be (different than before) or not to be!"
