Summary/Abstract: The study outlines the cross-border social, economic and environmental cooperation of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina as a European region, providing a practical example of the principles that underpin regional policies in Serbia and the European Union. This cooperation is unique because the province borders three EU Member States whose neighbourhood policies, in addition to other bilateral relations, offer institutionalised, active and sustainable cooperation, financed by the European Union. It provides an opportunity to learn about EU professional, administrative and financial management practices in areas such as nature conservation, environmental protection, business development, infrastructure development in border regions, cultural history, tourism and community relations. The study highlights how the province receives and utilises these funds at a regional level, and the extent to which they contribute to the territorial development of cities, smaller settlements and regions. In other words, they increase the foreign relations capital of institutions and local authorities. As the support system has already undergone two complete planning periods (2007–2013 and 2014–2020), the focus of our study is on these periods.
