Summary/Abstract: On the shortlist of strategies that keep audiences glued to a story—whether it’s a novel or a film—using the first person ranks at the top. Seeing the characters and the action exclusively through the narrator’s perspective—not an omniscient one, for example—creates a sense of intimacy and emotional attachment. When well executed, this technique allows the reader or viewer to see, hear, feel, and live directly within the narrative universe. / Colson Whitehead is undoubtedly one of the most remarkable American writers of the Third Millennium. Since his debut in 1999, he has published eleven volumes, two of which are nonfiction, the rest novels.
