Summary/Abstract: Knowledge management emerged as a scientific discipline in the early 1990s, but in spite of the fact that it represent a distinct contribution especially of the private sector where the concept of knowledge as a "competitive advantage of the company" and "knowledge capital" hold the sway. One of the reasons for this development has been the emergence of information and communication technologies (ICTs). This paper discusses the importance of knowledge management in companies, the possibility of management and leaders to recognize it and the key issues related to operational aspects of people in knowledge management between mambers of staff and members of staff and customers. Networked organization and virtual organization, as its product, create the preconditions that knowledge as a resource is continually produced and used. The essence of successful business is the distribution and increase of the amount of knowledge among employees in the organization on all levels. The knowledge that employees possess and an adequate management process are prerequisites for achieving competitive advantage.
