Summary/Abstract: In this paper, I explain why Hans-Hermann Hoppe’s advocacy of monarchyposes some theoretical and practical challenges to libertarianism. Bydefi nition, libertarianism (anarcho-capitalism) opposes the existence of thestate as such. However, Hoppe presents conditional support for this type ofregime, especially in comparison to democracy. This view seems surprisingnot only when compared to the core assumptions of libertarianism, but also tothe ideological tradition from which this political philosophy originated. In thispaper, I would like to consider the possible aporias arising from the attemptto reconcile monarchy with anarcho-capitalist political philosophy and tryto show the proper meaning of libertarian monarchy. In the article, I alsoexplain the connection between support for the monarchy and the problemof political strategy, i.e. the way in which libertarian philosophy presupposesthe achievement of its demands. In this perspective, monarchy turns out tobe merely an element of Hoppe’s postulated delegitimisation strategy.
