Summary/Abstract: Genealogy is theoretically postulated as an introduction and conclusion. The paper focuses mainly on the Assyrian King List, which is eclectically translated but also commented in broader perspectives. Among them are features of Assyrian eponyms and their relation to the Assyrian ruling kinship. The latter is interpreted as a textual artefact, being a foundation for the indigenous understanding of genealogy and the fixed sequence of rulers. It goes back to mythical times and builds up to real players during the time of its creation. Then, the paper departs methodologically, focusing on the function of the artefacts inscribed with the King List. It imagines the text as a visual object, which was used to show the Assyrian Kinship in an urban context. It exemplifies that the text had functions beyond its information, being displayed to the public on cuneiform tablets and erected stelas.
