The Catholic Church in the tape library of the Polish Radio Koszalin from 1962–1993. A review of the contents of the magnetic tapes

Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the content of the substantive part of the tape library of the Polish Radio in Koszalin, which was prepared in the years 1962–1993, i.e. during the functioning of the Committee for Radio and Television (1951–1993), and which concerns the Catholic Church in the eastern part of Western Pomerania. Audiovisual documentation is a special archival and historical source, used more and more often. The reason for this state of affairs is primarily technical difficulties, and to a much lesser extent of a substantive nature. It is possible to distinguish individual stages in which the editors of the Polish Radio Broadcasting in Koszalin were more or less interested in the broadly understood issues of the Catholic Church: in the initial phase, this interest was limited to sacred monuments, then musical culture, rituals related to Christmas and Easter. In the 80s of the twentieth century, the Koszalin Radio Station broadcast more and more programs related to the life of the Catholic Church, its role in the history of the Polish state and its influence on current affairs. The article also presents the circumstances and conditions in which the broadcasts were recorded, as well as indicates those organizational units of the Koszalin Radio that prepared the sound material for broadcast. The entire presented sound material is contained in 99 inventory units, constituting 99 separate recordings, and the total duration of the recordings is 45 hours, 51 minutes and 20 seconds. The recordings have been presented in a layout that makes it possible to recognise their substantive content, physical characteristics of the media, creator, editing and production, duration, among other things.
