Summary/Abstract: Closing of borders of the United States of America for free immigration had to lead to attempts at illegal entrance into the territory of the „most emigrant country“. Yugoslav emigrants were no exception and they became part of a general European and world phenomenon during the inter-war period. The ways of illegal entrance were various, some of them already well-established and often applied, such as the attempts at entering the USA via the territories of the neighbouring countries such as Canada, Cuba and Mexico, whereas sometimes they were individual, inventive or naive attempts with various endings. Legal measures on both sides of the Atlantic tried to put an end to this phenomenon, but, as was made manifest, the attraction of America and the wish for achieving be tter life were stronger, so that attempts at illegal entrance into the USA remained part of the migratory process and behaviour during the inter-war period.
