At the same time, anticipated future outcomes can shape present interactions. For example, if individuals wish to sustain a communicative relationship, they are more likely to engage respectfully, empathetically, attentively, and supportively in the present. In this way, communication is both a product and a catalyst of change, continuously influencing and reshaping those involved. This perspective highlights what may be regarded as a categorical imperative of human interaction: the fundamental necessity of communication for the existence and continuity of the human species.
