Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to analyse two important texts that have marked the American political discourse − Patrick Henry’s speech “Give me Liberty, or give me Death!” (1775) and Alexis De Tocqueville’s book Democracy in America (1835, 1840). By taking into account the roles of the two authors and the historical background of their texts, this paper reveals the dangers that threatened America at that time. It also highlights the solutions that the two authors proposed and are still applicable today.
