Summary/Abstract: This work aims to conceptually address the "mental space" as a notion in cognitive semantics and highlight its role in explaining the mechanisms of imagination and meaning creation in literature. Perceived as challenging to define due to their unstable properties and the diverse indicators by which they can be identified, mental spaces are small conceptual packets constructed based on how we think and speak, designed for appropriate arrangement and action. They are microassemblies of meaning, linked together, that can be modified according to the whims of thought and discourse. Regarding types of mental space, several can be identified based on at least two criteria: the introducer and the place these spaces occupy in a piece of communication. They come into contact and are involved in a process of conceptual blending, resulting in a new type of space – the blend, the most advanced form of mental space discovered to date.
