Summary/Abstract: Reducing the external costs of road transport can be achieved by the increasingly common use of alternative drives in motor transport. Electrification, hydrogenization of transport or the use of ecological gas fuels in transport can allow to adapt to numerous EU legal regulations in this area. Polish road carriers are still the leaders in European road transport, but recent years have been increasingly difficult and the development prospects are getting worse. In addition to growing competition from other EU countries, as well as from Ukrainian carriers, this state of affairs is also influenced by the decreasing profitability of transport, the introduction of the mobility package, and subsequent fees imposed on carriers. The use of alternative drives in the vehicle fleet of Polish transport companies can have a positive impact on the cost-to-revenue ratio, and on the further expansion and development of these companies. The article presents issues related to the analysis of the use of alternative drives in the road transport of goods.
