A Moralist and a Critic Uroš Petrović

Summary/Abstract: Uroš Petrović had insufficient time to develop his literary and pedagogical engagement, but even this modest body of work indicates an author who, during the golden period of Serbian literary criticism, had a clear relationship to literary creativity and equal standards in judging the work at hand, regardless of whether it was by a foreign or local writer, beginner or recognized author. He achieved a recognizable and unique method of interpretation, primarily in researching the meaning and importance of conventions, the influence of the prevailing genre, technique or model, in an environment that included historical and cultural influences, primarily seeking to find a balance between national interests and European influences. His work is important for understanding the development of Serbian literary thought as well as for understanding Serbian society.
