TRAGEDY AND DILEMMAS IN THE PROSE OF E. A. POE

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this study is to highlight how E.A. Poe's prose was received in Romanian culture. The research attempts to highlight the role played in this activity by the media, especially the generalist media, as most of the works appeared in newspapers. The cultural press in Romanian was not very developed in the second half of the 19th century, but many literary texts appeared in daily or weekly publications. Also, the investigation carried out in physical or digital archives highlights the merits of some translators, some of them anonymous, others important names in Romanian culture.
