Summary/Abstract: The problem of religious pluralism is one of the central ones for the contemporary philosophy of religion. A significant contribution in this field was made by the British-American philosopher and theologian John Hick (1922–2012). In his interpretation, Hick assumes that religions represent responses conditioned by cultural and historical contexts to the same transcendental basis of existence – Reality itself (the Real). This Reality manifests itself differently within the framework of different religious traditions, which function as mediators of the sacred. The history of religions demonstrates the multiple forms through which this transcendental reality is conceptualized and experienced. Religious salvation, as understood in Semitic religions, and spiritual liberation, as understood in Indian religious and philosophical doctrines, is, according to Hick, the possibility of a radical transformation of human existence by overcoming destructive egocentrism and achieving a new centering – in the transcendent Reality.
