Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the impact the discovery of terracotta figurines from Tanagra and other ancient towns had on the art world in the 1880s and 1890s. It presents counterfeit artifacts that appeared on the antiquities market at that time and consequently trickled into many collections of antiquities. The analysis of examples taken from the collection of Prince Wladyslaw Czartoryski shows the diversity of ancient inspirations.
