Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the basic elements of the Directive on preventing and combating trafficking in human beings and protecting its victims, including the latest amendments adopted in 2024. This directive stipulates a framework for establishing minimum rules defining criminal offences and penalties for trafficking in human beings. It contains common provisions that take into account the issue of gender to prevent this criminal offence and protect victims of human trafficking. It also provides measures that member states should undertake to establish national coordinators or similar mechanisms responsible for monitoring and reporting on the situation in the field of combating trafficking in human beings.
