Summary/Abstract: The growing context of foreign students attending medical faculties in Romania, as well as the lack of standardized tests applicable in this context, led us to critically look at the way we assess our students at the end of the Romanian language module for specific purposes - medical Romanian. The study analyses the criteria underlying summative assessment in Romanian for specific objectives (ROS) in the specific case of medical Romanian language at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Iuliu Hațieganu" of Cluj-Napoca. We approach the outcome of the assessment from two directions: first, the training of General Medical students for their work in practical semiology courses in years 3-6 and specialty courses in Romanian; second, the assessment itself, in particular the summative oral assessment. Our study aims to discuss the specificity, authenticity, reliability and construct validity, the structure of the assessment of anamnesis and case presentation, the type of language, role-taking in the simulation. The results of our analysis support the redesigning of the assessment and finally we provide solutions by detailing some descriptors and a requirement, as well as how we expect the assessment to proceed, given that we are not discussing a certification language for specific purposes (LSP) test.
