Summary/Abstract: After the signing of the Lausanne Peace Treaty, Türkiye, under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, embarked on a process of reforms domestically; externally, within the framework of the understanding of “Peace at home, peace in the world”, Türkiye put into practice the policy of getting along well with all neighboring countries. Within this framework, Türkiye started initiatives to secure its western border and signed a non-aggression treaty with the Balkan states. The coming to power of Venizolos in Greece and the resolution of the “Etabli” problem between Türkiye and Greece in 1930 brought the two states a little closer. As a result of the Balkan conferences organized under the leadership of these two states in 1930, 1931, 1932 and 1933, the Balkan Entente was signed between Türkiye, Greece, Yugoslavia and Romania on February 9, 1934 in Athens. The aim of this study is to examine how the Balkan Entente was handled in high school history textbooks in Türkiye in the period between 1945 and 2022. Among the high school history textbooks examined within the scope of the study, the first book that mentions the Balkan Entente is Enver Ziya Karal’s “History of the Republic of Türkiye (1918-1944)” published in 1945. However, in the history textbooks taught in high schools until 1980, the Balkan Entente was explained on the basis of the same author’s book“History of the Republic of Türkiye (1918-1953)” published in 1954. After 1980, the book “History of the Reforms of the Republic of Türkiye” written by Mükerrem K.Su and Ahmet Mumcu and published in 1982, which brought some changes to the subject in terms of content, was taken as the basis for explaining the subject in high schools and this continued until the 2010s. In the high school history textbooks that started to be taught in high schools in the 2010s, although there was not much change in terms of content, it was seen that activities and visuals related to the subject were included within the scope of constructivist education. Published in 2020, the “Turkish Republic History of Reforms and Kemalism” textbook is seen to deal with the subjectwith a holistic approach.
