Summary/Abstract: This article explores the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI) and social media (SM) on the radicalization of young people, aiming to provide a general framework for understanding this complex and evolving phenomenon. Reported at national, European and even global levels, in today's increasingly digitalized society, SM and AI-based technologies play a dual role: tools for connection and expression, but also tools that can be exploited to propagate extremist ideologies. Our analysis begins by presenting some of the uses of AI, showing its benefits but also its potential malicious uses. A key section investigates how radicalization occurs in the digital age, particularly among young people, who, due to specific vulnerabilities, based on issues such as identity search, social alienation and online exposure, are increasingly susceptible to radical narratives. It shows how AI and SM contribute to radicalization, from the algorithmic personalization of content to the use of AI in targeted propaganda and recruitment. It also assesses the broader societal impact of digital technologies, highlighting their role in shaping the behavior and perceptions of young people and providing some illustrations of youth radicalization. In conclusion, it highlights the need for governments and international institutions to address youth radicalization in the context of rapidly evolving technologies. The study lays the foundation for future research and the development of effective and adaptable prevention strategies to counter extremism and terrorism among youth in the digital age.
