Summary/Abstract: The study analyses Turkey's strategic role in controlling migration flows to the European Union and the risks associated with a potential internal political crisis. As the primary "buffer state" between the Middle East and the Schengen area, Turkey hosts over 4 million refugees, 90% of whom are integrated into urban areas. Under the EU-Turkey Agreement (2016), Ankara received €6 billion to manage migration, but turned it into a tool for geopolitical pressure, as demonstrated in 2020 by opening its borders to Greece.
