Summary/Abstract: Climate change is a recognised security risk at global level, both among international organisations – with the UN and the EU taking on particularly ambitious targets, through their Member States – and among public opinion, according to surveys. The article addresses a fundamental aspect in relation to the issue, bringing to the fore the main causes of climate change – anthropogenic (and the often invoked scientific consensus) or natural. Using the descriptive method, based on the study of official documents and literature papers, the article aims to answer the following research questions: is there a real scientific consensus on the causes of climate change? And, assuming this consensus is valid, is it for the benefit of science?
