Business security and strategic alliances of small and medium-sized enterprises in Europe

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to analyze the key aspects of strategic cooperation among smalland medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in five European countries – Poland, Spain, Ro-mania, Italy, and Lithuania – in the context of their efforts towards green transformationand ensuring business security. The theoretical part concerns the significance of stra-tegic alliances supporting SMEs actions towards green transformation and the impact ofthese alliances on business security. The empirical part consists of research conducted in2024 among SMEs in the above-mentioned European countries, using personal interviewmethodology. The results of the research indicate that SMEs in the surveyed countries en-gage in cooperation with a wide range of stakeholders, including suppliers, customers,higher education institutions, research institutes, the public sector, and competitors, toachieve sustainable development goals, enhance business security, and prepare for thegreen transformation. This cooperation includes both innovative technological solutions,such as the transformation of production processes into more sustainable ones, andpro-ecological practices, such as recycling, CO2 emission reduction, eco-designing prod-ucts, and ensuring energy efficiency. In terms of methods for establishing cooperation,businesses use a combination of formal and informal approaches.
