Summary/Abstract: In this article, I undertake an autoethnographic reflection on my “dual” identityas a writer of both literary and academic texts. I describe both types of creativeprocesses and consider how their conditions and characteristics may influence mysense of identity as a writer versus a researcher / academic. I seek to answer thequestion: Who am I when writing novels and short stories, and who am I whenwriting academic articles? In analyzing the narrative I have created, I draw on concepts from the fields ofpedagogy and the psychology of creativity, including stimulators and inhibitorsof creativity, as well as Mihály Csíkszentmihályi’s theory of flow. Referring to thecontemplative approach to social research, I present a self-report on the processof generating an autoethnographic narrative. As part of my conclusions, I identifytwo aspects of my identity as a writer – the Student and the Creator. I describe thecharacteristics of both constructs and reflect on how much freedom and flexibilityare permissible in scientific writing within the academic framework, as well as howthe conditions of academic work may shape the identity of the Student in relationto personal well-being.
