Summary/Abstract: Post-WWII migration significantly impacted European societies, including Czechoslovakia. This study examines the social aspects of migration in Handlová, a Slovak mining town, which underwent a substantial population exchange after WWII, becoming a town of settlers. Using archival research and oral history interviews, the study explores the experiences of settlers and their children, often under-represented in previous research. The study analyzes the settlers' diverse backgrounds, the challenges they faced (including social tensions and unequal state support), and the role of the shared mining profession in fostering social integration. The heterogeneity of the resulting society, intensified by state policies, is a key focus.
