Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the evolution of the Romanian associative environment in interwar Bukovina, with a focus on its role in promoting culture, education, and social cohesion. Based on thorough documentation, it highlights the types of associations, the legal framework, stages of development, and the main forms of socio-cultural involvement. The contribution of these organizations to supporting rural youth, facilitating access to education, and promoting national values is emphasized, without overlooking the structural, economic, and political limitations they faced. Initiatives dedicated to adult education are described – public lectures, social gatherings (șezători), awareness campaigns – as well as involvement in addressing social issues such as alcoholism or poor living conditions. The article also discusses the process of adapting to the post-union legislative framework. It mentions the specific characteristics of activities carried out in rural areas, logistical difficulties, and the ways in which associations tried to compensate for the lack of organized institutional support.
